Installation Work
Connecting the Dots
In the heart of Columbus, Ohio, I sculpt a vibrant, interconnected world. My latest installation features brightly glazed ceramic spheres linked by delicate nichrome wire, symbolizing the unseen bonds connecting us to each other and to the past.
These pieces, resembling atom models, blend science and art. Each segment, varying in size, offers infinite possibilities for connection, reflecting the fluid nature of our relationships and histories. The reconfigurable elements allow the installer to co-create, adding personal meaning and interpretation.
This dynamic structure evokes our shared interdependence, with each sphere representing a node in the network of life. It’s an invitation to recognize and celebrate the interconnectedness of all things, reminding us that we are part of a grand, luminous whole.
The Courage to Rebuild
Continuing the exploration begun in Connecting the Dots, The Courage to Rebuild emerges from a more personal storm. This installation transforms the language of connection into one of renewal, a meditation on vulnerability, resilience, and the beauty that follows upheaval.
Suspended white ceramic clouds, glazed with an iridescent shimmer, cradle rainbow-hued molecular forms in motion, symbols of transformation within chaos. The playful wooden ladders linking some of the clouds invite both ascent and uncertainty, echoing the steps we take toward healing and rediscovery.
This work is, in many ways, a self-portrait, a reflection on my experience with cancer and the ongoing process of recovery. Here, I see myself as a rainbow still forming, a spectrum emerging from stormlight. The piece celebrates the courage it takes to rebuild after rupture, to find color again in the aftermath.
Where Connecting the Dots traced the networks that bind us, The Courage to Rebuild dwells in the tender moment before reconnection, when the air is charged, the storm begins to clear, and possibility glows at the edges of the clouds.
